A new automobile dealer has the details. The specifications are listed in their brochures.
If you are planning on towing a tandem trailer, minimum amount of a Hd three/4T or 1T P/U. Go with the GM or Dodge diesel four.10 rear axle ratio.
Ford trucks seem to be to be far more problematic.

Go to rv.net and search towing capacites, this is an excellent site for rv’ing. The formulas are too complicated for most people, that is what dealer will offer you. I have a f-350 with turbo diesel, 3:73 gears and pull a 12,000 lb 5th wheel. 180,000 miles no major mechanical problems.
